Business Continuity Planning

Risk Point carries out business continuity planning (BCP) for clients who require assistance in developing strategies for dealing with potential emergencies. Usually business continuity planning is carried out after a risk assessment or a risk management programme has been established. To develop a business continuity plan, risks and exposures in the business must be understood in order to develop appropriate contingency plans for the business.

Business continuity plans commence with the scope and definition of the project to ensure there is a clear understanding of Risk Point’s role in the process. A business impact analysis is carried out to determine the level of impact a particular disaster or event may bring to the organisation. Following the business impact analysis, business continuity plans are developed for operational areas of the business and for the whole organisation. Areas addressed include liaison with relevant authorities, media and communication, and production or business operations. The business continuity plan is then communicated within the business, and maintained and tested.

In carrying out BCP Risk Point uses the new risk Standard, AS/NZS 5050:2010, Business Continuity – Managing disruption – related risk as the baseline methodology as well as AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009, Risk management – Principles and guidelines.
